The Belmont Rada Community

It's Black History Month and here's the first of short intro of The Belmont Rada Community. It was founded in 1868 by Abojevi Zahwenu, also known as Robert Antoine and Papa Nanee. It's located on Antoine Lane, in Belmont Valley Road on 3/5th of an acre purchased for $135.

Cojo Billy

Who was the first band leader to portray African mas? Who was the first band leader to have a choreographed dance on the stage. Whatever you guessed, you’re wrong. It was the Antoine family. Many, many years ago (no one can remember the year), the Antoine family had a carnival band with a presentation called, Cojo Billy. We were dressed as Africans, new drums were made, a song was composed and choreography was done. We practiced in the tent for weeks and finally took our presentation to the stage. Great fun was had by all, but it was never repeated. Who’s ready to resurrect Cojo Billy for 2012 carnival?
